Conversions

Conversions can be considered types of property extensions because they extend the internal living area. Richard James Building Contractors provides both loft and garage conversions to suit any existing space. Conversions can be standalone projects or form part of home renovations.

Dormer Conversions – These are a type of loft conversion which involves creating a box-shaped structure that sticks out from the roof of your Hurstpierpoint home. This structure includes normal windows.

Mansard Conversions – Mansard loft conversions replace a sloped side of the roof with a flat-roofed structure that has an almost vertical wall.

Hip-to-Gable Conversions – This type of loft conversion involves extending the sloped side of your roof to a vertical gable end wall with a standard pitched roof.

Rooflight Conversions – These conversions retain the existing loft space and simply involve adding rooflights alongside all interior works.

Garage Conversions – Involve upgrading existing garages to turn them into rooms which meet regulations for habitable spaces. We generally convert garages in Hurstpierpoint which are attached to the house, but it is possible to convert detached garages. Our builders also convert single and double garages.

Property Extensions

Rear-Facing Extensions – As the name suggests, a rear-facing extension will extend outwards from the back of your house.

Side-Return Extensions – This type of extension is to the side of the property, generally filling in the passage, alley or path that runs from the front to back of the house.

Wraparound Extensions – Our builders in Hurstpierpoint can combine side and rear property extensions to create an L-shaped extension.

Home Renovations

Internal Layout Alterations – This refers to any work which will change the internal layout of your house as shown on the lease plan. For example, adding or removing internal walls or creating a new doorway.

Structural Work – Any work which affects supporting components of a house and/or the external envelope of the building. This includes structural repairs and alterations carried out as part of home renovations. Examples of structural components are the roof, floor joists, foundations and supporting walls. Loft conversions also often involve structural alterations.
